When importing goods into Sweden, you must declare the goods to customs.

After the Customs have cleared the goods, you can send the goods out of the country. As an importer, you are obliged to declare the goods you bring into the country to the Swedish authorities.

Customs clearance of imports

The information you provide in the declaration is the basis for calculating customs duties and taxes. Customs checks the declaration through a customs office. Once the customs office is complete and you have paid customs duties and taxes, customs release the goods at your disposal.

These are the three main areas for customs clearance of import goods:

  • Normal import: Customs clearance of import goods for permanent entry into Sweden.

  • Temporary import: Items temporarily imported into Sweden for later re-entry

  • Reintroduction: Goods were reintroduced to Sweden after temporary export after, for example, repair abroad

Restricted goods: Goods such as alcohol, tobacco, and medicines are taxable.
