Increase in surcharges on sea and road freight

From December 1. 2023, there will be an increase in surcharges on sea freight in Europe and road transportation in Germany.

Changes in the German toll rates (MAUT) are being implemented from December 1, 2023. Simultaneously, starting January 2024, the European Union's Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) will undergo an extension, incorporating CO2 emissions generated during entry into EU ports. This development carries financial implications for sea freight customers.

The EU ETS, a cap-and-trade system established in 2005 to combat climate change, is now expanding its coverage. Initially targeting CO2 emissions, it excludes methane and NOX emissions until their scheduled inclusion in 2026. The EU ETS encompasses 50% of emissions from voyages outside the EU and 100% of emissions between EU ports and within EU ports.

Customers will experience a surcharge associated with these emissions regulations. Our team is actively assessing the cost implications and will provide detailed information promptly. We prioritize transparency, aiming to keep our valued partners informed about any operational changes. For further queries or information, our dedicated customer service team is ready to assist you.

For more details about the EU ETS, you can explore the European Union's website.
