Weight and volume rules for domestic groupage and part-loads

The sender is responsible that weights and dimensions are correctly specified for each consignment transported by ColliCare. The consignments total dimensions/weight are the basis for the correct calculation of the shipping price. Deviations in freight rates because of incorrect measures/weights are adjusted at the sender’s expense and invoiced.
All freight is calculated per registered consignment, regardless of the number of packages, and handled according to the agreed services and specified shipping calculation. A consignment is defined in a waybill with a sender and a receiver of the goods, and the shipping cost calculated by the specified weight/volume.
Transport prices are calculated by what is known as chargeable weight.
The term chargeable weight refers to the higher of the actual weight or the volume weight.
Volume weight is calculated using the following conversion factors:

Cubic meter (m3): Package’s (length * breadth * height) in meters.

Pallet space (ppl):
Pallets with base dimensions (1.2 m * 0.80 m) with goods that cannot tolerate a load of more than 400 kg/m2, or the top surface of the pallet is not flat;

  • The height of the goods exceeds 1.50 meters

Load meter (flm):
Goods that are difficult to load and cannot have other goods loaded on top of them (not weight bearing).
Load meter refers to the area on the load carrier that the goods require.
A rule of thumb is the goods’ (length (m) * breadth (m))/2.4.
Goods with a height over 1.50 meters are calculated according to load meters.

  • Round-up to the nearest 10 kg, up to 2500 kg
  • Round-up to the next 100 kg, over 2500 kg
  • Bonus calculation – from over 2500 kg

For goods within Sweden the volume weight is calculated as follows:

  • 1 m3 = 280 kg
  • 1 pallet space = 780 kg
  • 1 load meter = 1950 kg

For goods within the Nordics (Sweden excluded):

  • 1 m3 = 350 kg
  • 1 pallet space = 800 kg
  • 1 load meter = 2000 kg

For goods within Europe (Nordics excluded):

  • 1 m3 = 333 kg
  • 1 pallet space = 740 kg
  • 1 load meter = 1850 kg

Long cargo:
Cargos that are longer than 3 meters and shorter than 12 meters have their freight calculated according to the following table:

Breadth in cm  1-40 41-80 81-120 121-160 161-240
Kg/meter of length 325 650 975 1300 1950

  • E.g. 4.5 meters long and 70cm broad goods = 4.5m x 650kg = 2925kg chargeable weight
  • Any long cargo package under 30 kg is calculated with 225 kg per meter, regardless of breadth
